Epiphan's System Inc. allowing you to see a doctor.

Hello Everyone,

While looking at articles I came across an article about a doctor and Epiphan's System Inc. Its starts about a climber who is at the base camp (6400 m above sea level) and needs an ultrasound of his lungs. He got his ultrasound. But the doctor who looked at the ultrasound was located in Detroit. In order for this ultrasound to be performed, another accompanying climber set up a portable computer powered by a solar panel and manned the ultrasound machine for Dr. Scott Dulchavsky. A high resolution image was transmitted to Detroit with satellite phone and video capture made by Epiphan's System Inc.

Epiphan's System Inc is a seven year old Ottawa company. Their two largest markets are: telemedicine and education. Education focuses on providing medical applications for universities and distance education. The devices that Epiphan’s System Inc provides allow professors and students to transmit images.

Here’s a little about the company. They have customers in 89 countries. They avoided venture capital. The company has seen a positive cash flow due to early sales allowed founders to buy out half of its investors. Founders claim the rest don't know if they want to buy out now.

Talk about a company! Epiphan's System Inc is obviously on the right track! The impact they are having on business is amazing. Not only are they a Canadian company they are also making an imprint in the market. Their two biggest markets in my mind are great one to start with. The only thing is with technology it’s always changing. With medicine and education they are also forever changing. If the company can adapt to changing environments and can provide new devices when older one has become outdated, I think it will create a new ground of competition to other industries who work in these fields.

Thousands Stranded Without Mobile Usage.

Hello everyone,

Japan had an earthquake on Friday that put Toyko to a standstill. The 8.9 magnitude earthquake had shut down mobile phone networks and disrupted landline telephone service. Major telecommunication companies: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. set up emergency phone lines and internet websites for people to leave messages for families and friends to inform of their safety. However, due to amount of people using the services, 90% of calls were restricted to protect Telecom equipment from getting damaged from overload. The companies were reportedly checking damage to towers and cables.

The reason why I picked this article is because of Nippon Telegraph and Telphone Corp. In the time of need, these companies decide to put their information technology together to help those who were looking for family and friends. As a business point of view, this is a great accomplishment. The companies have identified that they are the two major companies for these services. The way they did it is by being able to provide a service after a major earth quake hit - also being reliable. At a customer stand point, if a environmental tragdey such as the one Japan experienced were to happen to me, I would more then likely go to seek services from either company because how reliable they are. I would think, that because the companies made the decision they did, their sales will boost up when the country starts to rebuild everything it has lost.

Are You Connected?

Article: Newbies for Social Media Networks

Hello Everyone,

Are you connected? You may not be sure as to why I am asking you if you are connected. I am asking in regards to social media networks like: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn and blogs. Well I am connected. I am currently using Facebook, Youtube and creating blogs. But you would be surprised as to the amount of people who do not use these sites. Mark Evan's calls them "newbies". These "newbies" are looking to join social media networks like: Facebook (currently hold over 600 million people using the services), Twitters and blogs ( with over 200 million). Universities like Ryerson, in Toronto, provide workshops for those who are looking to learn more about these websites and services they are providing. Mark Evans, attends a workshop on core messaging where he finds individuals who are, "hungry for information and excited about possibilities".

Are these workshops even of any use to the creators of social media networks? I think so. Business like the famous Facebook, thrive off of people using their services. The social media network does not charge anyone to use its services. However, because of the abundance of users (customers), companies pay Facebook to advertise their services or products on the site. With workshops like the Core Messaging at Ryerson University that Mark Evans attended, it helps encourage individuals to proactively try to get set up. With this encouragement, social media networks will see a boost in the amount of people trying to use their services. Overall, these businesses will see growth if more people start using their services. It's a guaranteed success.
